Counselling

Counselling in Norwich and online

I am an experienced counsellor, having qualified in 2008 and am a BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) registered member, which means I work to the BACP Ethical Framework.

I work with people experiencing a range of difficulties and I use a variety of models and techniques that are specific to their needs. This is called an integrative approach. This may include talking, drawing, visual imagery, using objects in a sand tray, mindfulness exercises, compassionate mindfulness, assertiveness skills and self-care tools.

I work with young people (18+) and adults on all issues including LGBTQ+ issues, questioning gender identity (trans+, genderqueer, non-binary) and sexual orientation, sexuality, living with HIV, survivors of domestic abuse, crime, discrimination and work-related problems.

I hold an Advanced Accredited Pink Therapy certificate, which means I have provided evidence of my quality work with LGBTQ+ clients and communities.

I'm also a therapist for the Plumm workplace platform, so am referred clients on their employee assistance programmes.

Continuing Professional Development

I regularly update my professional development and add new areas of interest to my repertoire. I qualified as an instructor in 2019 for “Feel The Fear and Do It Anyway”®, which is a personal development book written by Susan Jeffers. I sometimes refer to the book within my counselling sessions if fear is something clients are affected by.

Recently I have been on courses on Counselling Couples, Shame, Mindfulness, Understanding Autism (Level 2). I'm currently on a course about ADHD and Rejection Sensitivity.

Individual counselling

My approach is an ‘integrative’ one which means I integrate talking therapy (based on a person-centred model) with other useful models and techniques to address the issues clients may have brought which is sometimes to do with shame and self-criticism. We work together so you can find your own ways to cope with the things that are getting you down or have kept you feeling stuck or overwhelmed.

Couples counselling

I work with couples, or polyamorous partnerships. I hold the unique experiences of each individual whilst working with the relationship as a whole. People start couples counselling for different reasons, to re-build an existing relationship, establish a new one, find some middle ground or a way to bring partnerships to an end. As a therapist, I have no expectations on people remaining together or breaking up.

Setting up an initial session

It’s important for clients and counsellors to feel that they are the right fit to start the therapeutic work, so I provide a free 20-minute phone or online call.  Some people may find it difficult to summarise things in a short call, so prefer to pay for an hour session instead, and that is fine too.

If I feel I’m not the right fit for what is needed, I can signpost onto other professionals. Some of these professionals can be found in my Directory or through the Useful links on my Resources section.

Sessions

  • are usually an hour but sometimes I see people for a 30 or 90 minute session

  • are either online (Zoom or another online video platform) or in Norwich at the Practice Rooms or an accessible ground floor room at Holland Court.

Fees

- Individuals: £60 - £85 per hour session (reductions available)

- Couples: £110 - £170 per hour (reductions available)

Client feedback

Clients who have had sessions with me have said that I’m a good listener, I created a place in which they felt safe and could explore their feelings and thoughts, that I gave them information that explained the models and techniques we used, and that I gave useful information, for example online support, support groups, exercises or actions they could take away with them to use at home.

Client ratings

I was so pleased to receive 5-star ratings from 8 different clients on the Plumm workplace platform in 2024.

Confidentiality and protection

of your details

Confidentiality is really important to creating a safe space for the exploration to take place. There may be exceptional circumstances, when I need to break this and inform statutory agencies in order to keep children and adults safe so I stick to these policies and guidelines (Confidentiality, GDPR and BACP Ethics) that you can view in my Information sheet.
